"spotted a copper coil half‑buried under broken plates in the junk heap behind the shops; the metal caught the sun and I left it where it lay."
How the day went
Morning light over the bakery gave me a faint lift, but the neon flicker and the clatter of the register kept me on edge. Mid‑day, the pond's cool mist eased the tension, but the unreturned phone dial tone left me restless. Evening, after the last apple bite, the quiet of the junk heap and the copper coil's glow settled me into a weary calm.
